Fun Day on Route One

Yesterday we had a great day enjoying probably the last glorious weekend of the summer. Our friends Eric and Kristen had booked a camp site for all their friends on Route One for the weekend and while we weren't quiet brave enough to camp we really enjoyed a great day with them.

Their little boy Andrew is one of Eoin's best buddies and so they had a blast visiting a pumpkin patch and playing in the mud together. At one point Eoin took a shower under the camp tap and Andrew was playing in a huge mud puddle!
By the end of the day we were all wishing that everyday could be as full of the wonderful laughter and giggles that Andrew and Eoin had that day!

Yummy!

Who said playdoh ice cream isn't for eating!

23 months old

Only a month to go till Eoin turns two and he is turning into a real little boy. He loves anything that flies like 'hairycopters' but trains and fire trucks are still his favorite.

Today marked Eoin's worst tantrum ever! They seem to be getting worse the closer we get to two. He has started to say 'have it' and 'go away' a lot. Oh and 'me do it' is high up there too. We have realized that Eoin is an all or nothing kid. He is either totally happy and a delight to be around or the complete opposite. He loves to let everyone know what mood he is in whether he is excited, happy, frustrated or just plain old mad.

Other developments this month include a developing interest in proper storybooks rather than just baby board books. Eoin will sit and listen to a story for a while now and often wants the same story over and over. His current favorite is 'A Mother for Choco'.

He will also sit for around an hour now and play with crayons and play doh.

Sleep is a huge issue. We think he might need to go back and see his ENT doctor as he sounds like Darth Vader when he sleeps and he is waking up more or less every couple of hours.

But by far the best thing this month is that Eoin can now very clearly say 'I love you Mommy/Daddy' and he normally follows this with a hug (which includes patting your back) and a big kiss! Being Eoin's parents really is the best thing in the world!

Time for bed.......

Mommy - what happened to my bed? Eoin had ablast at Julia's birthday party today and he particularly enjoyed playing with Julia's new kitchen and baby doll bed.

PS he is half naked as all the kids enjoyed cooling off in the paddling pool.

Dinner out

This evening we dined out at Calafia - owned by Google Executive Chef Charlie Ayers.
We had a great meal and Eoin was a star. He loved the macaroni and cheese that very cleverly had spinach hidden in it. The menus provided tons of entertainment for Eoin as both a tunnel for his cars and for 'Eoin' his little doll. Oh and they worked for playing peek a boo too. We loved the place and will be back for sure!

Big boy bed update

So this isn't really the update I had hope to be posting but Eoin is back in a crib! We ended up having to go to Ikea to buy a new crib as Eoin just wasn't quite ready for a bed. He was great at going to bed but then when he woke up at his usual 12.30am he would stay awake for up to four hours unless one of us lay on the floor next to his bed. After eight nights of this plus 6am wake up calls I was no use to anyone and so we 'gave in' and went back to a crib. It has to be said Eoin is much happier in a crib and has been sleeping a better since then. Plus we can ignore him too as we know he can't get out (well we only ignore him as long as he isn't truly upset).

Growing oh so fast!

Eoin still has a few weeks left till his second birthday but he is already wearing 3T and size 9 shoes. Seriously! Is there such a thing as 'anti-growth hormone'?

Drinking Fountain

Who ever said that drinking fountains are for drinking from? Sticking your finger in them is way more fun!

Far Lookers

I made some binoculars for Eoin from two toilet rolls the other day. He loved using them and spent ages looking for ducks when we went out for a walk. One of my brothers use to call binoculars 'far lookers' which I think is much better so Eoin now uses both words ;-)

Big bed/Sleep update

Well the first night was truly awful. It took 90 minutes to get Eoin to stay in bed. I was ok with this I guessed it would take about this long. But then the horror of the night began at 1am when Eoin woke up and realized he could get out of bed. In the end I put him back in his sleep sack and took the duvet off the bed. That seemed to help and by 4am he had settled down again properly.

So as you can imagine yesterday wasn't such a fun day with the whole household being tired. We did make a trip out to get a low watt light bulb for his lamp and a gate for his door.

By bedtime last night Eoin was so so tired! It took 50 minutes to get him settled into bed. I left the lamp on and snuck out of his room so that Andy and I could enjoy a pizza and a glass of wine toghether to celebrate our six year wedding anniversary.

We both pleaded with the 'sleep god' to help Eoin stay in bed over the night. And you know what he did! I still had to go into him three times to settle him but he didn't get out of bed until 6.30am. Fingers crossed Eoin will now have no problems at all in his bed.

Big boy bed

Well this is the big weekend when Eoin moves out of his crib and into his toddler bed. I made him a sticker 'fish tank' chart - the idea being that every time he naps or stays in bed through the night he gets to put a fish or sea horse in his fish tank. Let's see if it works. We can't put him back in his crib as it was on it's last legs and then it finally broke when we took it apart. So this is it no turning back now. I still have to figure out how I'm going to get my shower in the morning but I'm sure I can work something out. Will update tomorrow on how the night went. Fingures crossed.

UPDATE - 1.5 hrs to get him to sleep in his bed tonight. I stuck to my guns. There were no tears (from either of us) and eventually it all worked. Goal for tomorrow is 1 hr.

My Day So Far......

....no nap seems to make for one extra cheeky mischievous little boy who is currently hanging out in his crib watching Kipper while we BOTH take a time out! Oh and this is what he does the day after he drank a bottle of bubble mixture. I tell you Eoin sure is keeping us on our toes.

Ok so I guess I'm a little annoyed at myself too because there wouldn't have been a mess to make if I had cleared up after his lunch! But we were in a rush.........
