First day of Kindergarten

Today Eoin started kindergarten. Eoin was very excited to start school but he also said he was nervous (I love that Eoin can identify his emotions so well).

Eoin's year has 8 classes of kinder kids! We have been so very lucky with Eoin's teacher as she is very familiar with IEP's and special needs teaching. The school has been amazing and so responisve to Eoin's needs. The resource teacher met us right at his classroom door and introduced herself and filled us in on what days she would be working with Eoin.

At pick up Eoin was very excited to tell us about the fire alarm going off. Poor teachers - first day back and the alarms go off because of a dusty air conditioner.

The only negative of the day was a kid laughing at Eoin when he dropped his lunch - it upset him so he really didn't eat much. The positive for the day was the song "Who let the letters out" (Yes to the music of Who let the Dogs out). When the kids sing "who let the letters out A A A A A" etc the kids whose names start with that letter get to dance their own special dance moves.

Soccer Camp

This last week has seen Eoin attend Soccer Camp. We signed Eoin up for two reasons; the first being he loves soccer and the second we wanted him to be in a large group situation as school starts in 10 days! Eoin has not been in preschool since the New Year, and while a day doesn't go by where he doesn't play with kids we wanted to see how he would handle a large group. Team sports are not new to Eoin as he has been taking soccer and basketball for some time now however being in a large group without me there to offer him support is new. Well Eoin did just amazingly. I really don't think there was any behavior demonstrated by him that was not appropriate for his age. Eoin really has come so far. It will be interesting to see if he will need the extra support the school district has offered once he starts kindergarten.

There was one case of a little shoving going on that I witnessed but we talked about being a team player and how he knows what is right or wrong - if someone shoves him it is not ok to shove back. The next few days went really smoothly and today at the end of camp he had so many new friends. The coaches commented on how much he had become a team player over the week.

We now have one more week of summer before school starts. This weekend we are relaxing with friends. Next week will see a sing-a-long and an ice-cream school for all the kindergarten kids so that can meet each other and their teachers before school starts. And that last weekend before school starts will be spent at our block party, celebrating the end of summer with our amazing neighborhood.

Birthfamily Visit

Last week we got to spend a day with Eoin's birthfamily. It was an amazing day. It was our first time meeting Eoin's birth grandfather and our first visit in five years with his sisters.

The girls and Eoin got on so well. Eoin ran out to meet them and was hugging them before they even got out of the car. It was so awesome to see how as siblings how similar they are in temperament.

We spent a day up inn the Santa Cruz mountains at the Roaring Camp Railway. We had a picnic lunch and then road the train. In the evening everyone hung out and spent time chatting.

It was a wonderful relaxed family day filled with so much love. I am constantly asked if I feel threatened in my role as a parent by having Eoin's birthfamily  in our lives. Honestly I can saw that I have never felt this way. Why would we be threatened by having more family in our lives especially when what brought us together is the miracle of Eoin. We all love Eoin so much and we are proud of the little guy he is growing into.
