Feeding the ducks

Feeding the ducks became an almost daily event while in Cork. Eoin would ask to go to the supermarket to get bread (posh ducks you know in Timoleague - they only like fresh bread!) and then we would feed the ducks. I am sure by the end of our vacation the ducks and seagulls recognized our car.

This sign was posted at the duck pond and boy did it make us laugh!

Beaches, beaches and more beaches

We spent most of our time in Cork on the beaches. Eoin thought it a little strange that on some of the coldest days the water and sand were frozen but he was always buddled up and nice and warm so there wasn't too much of a problem. As always wading through rock pools was his favorite thing to do. This kid really is drawn to water. I think he would spend all day in it if he could!

Spoiled by the grandparents!

In perfect grandparent behavior Granddad and Sassy totally spoiled Eoin on Christmas Day with wonderful gifts. It was wonderful to see Eoin enjoy his family so much and have time to get to know them all!

Happy Christmas Everyone!

Wishing everyone a peaceful and fun filled Christmas time. We're enjoying some family time in Ireland so watch out in the New Year for some posts about Eoin enjoying Guinness, driving tractors and trying to break through the ice on the beach (I kid you not it has been so cold over here!)

Exploring Castles

We are very luckily that within a few miles our Eoin's grandparents home there are three great castle's to explore. Eoin was in absolute heaven exploring and heading up small stone staircases. In fact visiting a castle to explore became an almost daily event. Castles really are one of the things we miss most about home!

Isn't it meant to rain in Ireland?

Whenever we go to Ireland we go prepared for rain, it is after all Ireland. But this trip we were a little unprepared for the cold and icy conditions that were to greet us! Luckily Sassy had bought Eoin a great snow suit that kept him super warm and dry but even so the little guy did take a little while to get used to the cold.

On Christmas Day is got as low as -10 Celsius. Temperatures this cold hadn't been felt in Ireland since 1963. Mom and Dad's pond iced over, the local duck pond was partially frozen and on several days we couldn't drive on the small roads before midday. But most bizarrely the sand on the beaches was frozen. Eoin really couldn't understand why he couldn't dig and build sandcastles.
