Sitting up

Just in the last couple of days Eoin has got the hang of sitting up. It makes playtime so much more fun! He even sat on the grass in the park yesterday while I fed him.

Chiropractor

Eoin loves going to our Chiropractor. He has been getting adjusted nearly every week since birth. Initially it was to help with his constipation but lately he has really benefited from adjustments to help his immune system grow strong. Because he didn't get much breast milk we really want to do everything we can to help the little fella stay well and it seems to be working. We both have colds and touch wood he hasn't got a hint of one. Dr Kiser and Dr Wedemeyer were great too last week when Eoin was ill after his immunizations - within half an hour of seeing her he was sleeping and his fever came down. After three days of Tylenol and nothing working a trip to the Chiropractor and a homeopathic fever reducer did the trick and Eoin is back to being his usually sunny self.

Day at the beach

We had a fun time today at the beach. Eoin paddled in the pacific for the first time but cried when the cold water hit his feet. He loved digging in the sand much more than the water and he even ate some sand for good measure.

How does this thing work?

If I blow hard enough it should make a noise!

I have been playing nursery rhymes for Eoin on this colorful recorder but today he wanted to have ago himself. He's so funny - he kept putting it in his mouth and then getting confused because no sound came out of it.

Six months old already!

So Eoin has reached the half year mark already! We can't quite believe it. Unfortunately it was marked by a trip to the doctors for his six month check up and shots which made him feel a little unwell this evening but he is doing ok now with some Tylenol in him. (Update - well the night was pretty bad. Eoin cried through the whole night and this morning had a fever of 103.6 so took him to the doctor. His left leg was really swollen and super hot so looks like he had a nasty reaction to his shots. But after some more painkillers and a couple of cool baths he is doing better and hopefully we will all get some sleep tonight!).

So what milestones has Eoin reached - well he is 22.2lbs and 29 inches long (99% for weight and off the chart for height). He is wearing 12-18 month clothes (or if they are English clothes 9-12 months)

He is rolling over both ways and almost sitting up. He has fully discovered his toes and is in the process of discovering his hair which he likes to hold while falling asleep. Eating solids started some weeks ago but Eoin is now an accomplished eater of fruit and vegs and a little chicken.

He was sleeping through the night until the teething started but those pesky bottom teeth are taking their time - we can see them right there; two big bumps but they just won't break through his gums.

We still go to baby and mommy group once or twice a week and we have started a music class too. Eoin loves to hang out at the park with his friends and play on the swings and he has also taken a huge liking to walks in the Baby Bjorn (but Mommy's back doesn't hold up too well to a 22lb baby kicking in joy while out for a walk). Eoin's new favorite activity seems to be swimming! He just loves the pool and splashing and kicking.

Well the next few weeks will see some big events - we are going to Orlando on vacation with friends from England and just after we get back we get to go to court to finalize Eoin's adoption!

Eoin and Sappho

Well the video says is all!

New foods

This is Eoin's first time with a little texture to his food. He's not quite sure what to make of it though he did pretty well. I mixed some chicken with carrots. So far Eoin has tried banana, apple, pear, apricots, avocado, peas and brown rice, spinach and potatoes, sweet potatoes and chicken.

Mobile baby

Eoin has learned how to roll from his tummy to his back so now he can roll to get things. On this particular occasion he decided he wanted to get to his toy basket.

Brown Eyes

How could you not fall in love with Eoin's big brown eyes! He is fast learning that he just has to flash them at people to make them coo and smile with him.

Tummy Time

Eoin is getting very good at tummy time now. He can push straight up on his arms and has just started to work out how to roll from his tummy to his back.

Energetic little boy.

Here Eoin is showing off in his new jumper/exersaucer thingy. He has grown too big for his other jumper so this toy combines bouncing and lots of different toys (of which at least half play music!).

Pickles at Alice's

So this weekend we went to Alice's up in the hills to escape the heat. They do great burgers there and they are all called after motorbikes as it is a big biker place. With my burger came pickles so I thought (kind of as a joke) I'd offer one to Eoin. Well it turns out that our little fella loves sucking the vinegar out of the pickles! He sucked five slices of pickles dry and complained when there weren't anymore to sample.

All set for the summer

One cool dude! We're trying to get Eoin familiar with his sunglasses as he has learned how to take off his sun hat!

These glasses kind of work but they sit very close to his eyes and I think his long eye lashes bang of the lenses so he doesn't open his eyes which defects the object of the glasses really!

Just to make you jealous back home it is destined to be nearly 27 C this weekend.

UPDATE:
So it is way too hot here! 30 C or 86 F today and yesterday! We are melting.
On the glasses front our lovely friend Linda at the Site for Sore Eyes store in Palo Alto gave us two great pairs of sunglasses for Eoin FREE! Thank you Linda they are so much better than his originals - he can open his eyes properly!

He's going to be tall!

So after adoption group last night when Eoin and Anthony were squaring off with each other (so funny - Eoin went for Anthony's hair and Anthony went for Eoin's eyes) we realized that maybe Eoin was taller than we thought. So I measured him this morning and our tall boy is now 29.5 inches tall or for those of you in the UK nearly 2.5 ft or 75 cm! He has grown 9.5 inches in just under six months which I think is crazy! And he is now 22lbs too.

We went shopping yesterday for a cute outfit for Eoin to wear to court for our finalization hearing (which by the way will be May 20) and the pants that fir him were 12-18 months!

We're off to our first music class today but will post more about that later.

Fun little boy

Eoin is such a fun little boy (when his teeth aren't bothering him that is!). He is into everything and is discovering new noises, textures and tastes everyday.
He has just discovered his cows that make lots of crinkly noises, he continues to screech but also has started to hum. He is fascinated by our mouths and tongues as well as our glasses. About the only time he gets grouchy is when he is hungry. Oh and since starting solid food Eoin's problem with constipation has disappeared! We are averaging about five poo filled diapers a day now and sometimes numerous outfits a day.

Uumm carrots

Eoin tried out mango and carrots today (not together I hasten to add!). He loved the mango and also the carrots but the carrots ended up all over. His teeth are really beginning to bother him and so Eoin's fingers are going in his mouth after each spoonful of food and of course that then means the food gets distributed all over!

Sleep update

Eoin has just spent his first night in his own room! We deciced to take the mattress from his cradle and put it in the crib so that he had something 'familiar' there. He also had his blankie and dumbly. He was so exhausted when we put him to bed last night at 6pm that he slept through to about 1.30am (though we had to go in a couple of times to put his dumbly back in) when he woke up with a dirty diaper. This has been normal for the last few weeks and then he stays awake for about 45 minutes but he is good and just lies in his crib and murmurs to himself. He then woke again at about 5.30am when I brought him back to bed with me for cuddles before Andy fed him. He is now asleep again and hopefully will stay that way for a little longer so I can grab a shower.

Birthfamily Visit

Today was a fun day for us all as we spent time with Eoin's birthfamily. The girls wanted to go back to the Cheesecake Factory which I think is fast becoming a tradition for lunch when they visit! Then we ran of the energy from lunch at the park and a little later blowing bubbles in our backyard. Next visit we are going to try and get to the beach for a picnic.

Fry's

Eoin had his first experience of Daddy's favorite store Fry's today. Eoin got a quick lesson on computers and computer games. He seemed to enjoy it and smiled and laughed at everybody in the store.

Cover your ears!

Eoin has been practicing his squealing, well he did this a while ago but of late he is trying to go super sonic!

Highchair

Eoin's highchair arrived today and Mommy put it together. Only problem is you can only work out what height the seat should be at once you have put the child in so now I need to take it apart a little and lower the seat!

Having lowered the seat the highchair works much better. Eoin loved it and had his breakfast in it this morning.

Rolling Over

Eoin can fully roll over now which he does all the time but then he gets stuck on his tummy and starts complaining because he can't get back to his back. Luckily using a sleep sack seems to stop him doing this at night.
